Before I began this new painting, I wanted to portray the figure in action, in relation to a tool or weapon. The presence of such an appartus changes the figure's dynamic, blends the two together in unison.

Spike drivers, steel drivers, these are the titles of the powerful and tireless men that built the transcontinental railroad. Men such as the legendary and heroic John Henry would swing a spike hammer hour after and hour, day after day as the railroad inched across the great expanse of North America.
