With this new painting, I thought I would document a bit of the process along the way! Below on the left, you can see the first "sgraffito" technique of scratching lines into a base of wet white paint.
It was at the stage on the above right that I decided the positioning of the hands did not convey the theme to my liking - the theme of a figure using all his strength to break an unbreakable object. I decided some drastic change in position was in order.
With the hands better positioned to convey might and effort, I was able to put the finishing touches on: Hercules breaking the bonds of Prometheus, latex and acrylic paint on canvas, 36 x 48", 2016
