NOTE: This painting is currently on exhibition at the James David Brooks Memorial Gallery at Fairmont State University and will not be available for shipment until after September 14, 2018.
The inspiration for this piece lies in the events of Homer's epic poem "The Iliad". Diomedes, one of the greatest heroes of the Greek forces and a favorite of the goddess Athena, is given temporary power and fury by the gods. He rages through the Trojan army, slaying or wounding many heroes, as well as injuring the gods themselves. This painting depicts Diomedes in his rage, aided by the divine strength, as he hefts a huge stone. Hurling this monstrous stone, he wounded the Trojan prince Aeneas, hero of Virgil's "The Aeneid".
