Prometheus
This painting is part of my "DRAMATIS PERSONAE" series of portraits depicting the characters from the ancient drama "Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus (525-456 BC).
Enduring his binding in silence, once alone Prometheus cries out to the ether, the mother earth and the sun to behold his agony. Possessing foresight, he can see all his future sufferings before him. As the story unfolds, a series of visitors pass. Friends, a stranger and a messenger all offer their advice to the punished titan. Prometheus however, is stalwart and will not compromise. In this portrait he takes on the greenish gray hardness of the rocks he's bound to, which mirror his internal resolve.
