Hephaestus
This painting is part of my "DRAMATIS PERSONAE" series of portraits depicting the characters from the ancient drama "Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus (525-456 BC).
Hephaestus, god of smiths, laments his awful task - to bind his friend Prometheus to a lonely mountain to fulfill the punishment of Zeus. While crafting the unbreakable bonds, he curses his trade and is in turn chastised by his colleagues Might & Force. In this portrait the god of fire he turns away, unable to look upon his work.
