- Might binding Forethought
Might binding Forethought
Surprisingly, the opening scene of Aeschylus' "Prometheus Bound" contains no dialogue from its protagonist Prometheus (often referred to as "Forethought" due to his gift of prophecy). Instead, it contains a back and forth between the reluctant god Hephaestus, tasked by Zeus to chain the titan, and the harsh emissary of Zeus - Might. As Hephaestus bemoans his chore and begs the silent titan's forgiveness, Might admonishes him, reminding him to fear Zeus' wrath.
This large painting captures Might's zeal and physicality as he restrains the rebellious titan.
