The pride of Sisyphus
RESERVED FOR JAXON
This painting is part of my 3-part series "PRETIUM" - the Latin word for "price" or "cost". The paintings in this series feature figures from mythology that for offences against the gods were sentenced to eternal punishments befitting their crimes.
For his hubris of attempting to rival the gods, Sisyphus was sentenced to roll a large stone up a hill for eternity. The rock continually rolls back down before he can ever reach the top. A similar punishment was featured in the fourth circle of Dante's "Inferno".
