Oceanus
This painting is part of my "DRAMATIS PERSONAE" series of portraits depicting the characters from the ancient drama "Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus (525-456 BC).
Oceanus, like Prometheus, is a titan and therefore also feels the sting of Zeus' new rule. While sympathetic, Oceanus however urges Prometheus to accept Zeus as the new ruler of Olympus and to seek his mercy. The sea deity promises to plead on behalf of Prometheus' case, but is warned that he too could receive Zeus' anger.
