Might & Force
This painting is part of my "DRAMATIS PERSONAE" series of portraits depicting the characters from the ancient drama "Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus (525-456 BC).
Might and Force are introduced to the reader as the merciless jailers of Prometheus. They insult the bound titan and cruelly urge Hephaestus to swiftly (and silently) finish his work of crafting unbreakable bindings. The pair seem to revel in their task while questioning Hephaestus' commitment to Zeus' will. Their coldness and scrutiny is on display in this portrait. Under their watchful eye, Hephaestus must dutifully bind his friend, lest the "Ministers of Jove" report his hesitancy to a bitter Zeus.
