It's strange how inspiration works. When you spend time studying other artists, images often sink into your mind without realizing. Below is a painting I created back in 2010, Untitled Man 2. A year or two after finishing, I realized it looked similar in pose to the figure of Philip in Leonardo's Last Supper.
Untitled Man 2, graphite, latex paint and photo transfer on canvas,
26"x30", 2010
Detail of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, (the figure on the right is believed to be Philip), Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan, 1495-1498
Of course, it's not the exact pose, and the similarities could all be a coincidence. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it could still be another figure that has made its way into my mind. If any readers recognize other famous figures it shares similarities with let me know, and I'll check to see if I spent time studying them too!

Featured is my latest painting "Mutineers", with a short video of it being created. I plan to include more studio videos in the coming year.
